"Ik doe het niet voor de awards, maar ik ben er wel trots op"
In de wereld van trouwfotografie zijn er veel groepen bekend die zich richten op awards. Wanneer je net nieuw bent, zie je door de bomen het bos niet meer. Toch heb ik inmiddels een aantal wedstrijden gevonden waar ik graag aan mee doe, nml:
FEARLESS
Voor mij de meest belangrijkste. Niet alleen vanwege het extreem hoog niveau (maar 2% van alle inzendingen haalt ieder kwartaal een award, en de inzendingen komen van over de hele wereld van de allerbeste uit ons vak. Dat ik er een aantal gewonnen heb met foto's waar ik ook helemaal voor sta, is voor mij een fijne erkenning dat ik op de juiste weg ben. Daarnaast ben ik in 2019, slechts twee jaar sinds ik begonnen ben, tot de top 100 beste trouwfotografen van de wereld uitgeroepen... iets waar ik stiekem enorm trots op ben!)
Maar daarnaast is Fearless inmiddels zo veel meer voor mij. Het is een familie geworden. De conferenties zijn adembenemend en intens waardevol, en als persoon ben ik inmiddels enorm ten positieve veranderd door de mensen achter Fearless. Oprecht trots om onderdeel van te mogen zijn.

MASTERS
Een groep die zich richt op de BENELUX, waar de jury bestaat uit internationale top fotografen en waar tevens het niveau erg hoog ligt. Ook hier doe ik ieder kwartaal mee. Begonnen vanaf Ronde 17, ben ik inmiddels beland tot de top tien 2019 van de Benelux! De Masters houden ook regelmatig seminars, waar ik wanneer mijn agenda het toelaat, graag naar toe ga. De onderlinge sfeer onder collega fotografen is fantastisch te noemen, en dat is best bijzonder in ons vakgebied.
WPJA
A love for authenticity in wedding photography — finding art in the actualities of a marriage celebration — led to the founding of the Wedding Photojournalist Association (WPJA) in 2002. Out of respect for our clients, the wedding photographers and photojournalists accepted for WPJA membership have a demonstrated talent for candid originality and a dedication to the documentary approach in wedding photography. To maintain their standing in the WPJA, member photographers must adhere to the highest professional and ethical standards.
Ook hier kan ik mijn liefde voor echte momenten in kwijt! De jury bestaat hier uit Internationale fotojournalisten en je kan verschillende emblemen winnen.
FPJA
As professional family photojournalists, our job is to show you and your family at home, at work and at play. Rather than take a family portrait of stiff smiles and starched collars, people who hire a family photojournalist want to be in the middle of life with those they love, not herding whiners into a studio or stuck behind a camera themselves.
“Family photojournalism” just means we take a documentary, real-life, real-settings approach to photographing your family’s daily events, outings, parties or vacation activities. And as documentary photographers, we’re not focused on looking to pose your crew into a “funny” situation or stage-direct your celebrations. We just know that families look their best “acting naturally” — because they’re not acting, they’re actually enjoying themselves!
After a while, you’ll forget your family photojournalist is even there, which is when the pictures get good.
An afternoon in the backyard? A trip into town? A birthday party? Your mother’s retirement dinner? Really, the pictures we capture are limited only by your willingness and imagination, because we bring the image expertise and equipment.

This is Reportage
Moments come and go in an instant; what’s more precious than capturing them forever? This Is Reportage celebrates those wedding photographers who excel at doing exactly that, and doing so without interrupting your day, telling you what to do, or asking you to repeat things. Because, you’re there to marry the love of your life, aren’t you, rather than attending a photoshoot?
Of course, we’ve got nothing against wedding photographers who pose – and, indeed, some of the photographers on this site may still take the bride and groom away for some portraits, which is all good – what This Is Reportage is just featuring is the natural, unscripted, creative moment-capturing aspect of their work. Because, you know, there are already hundreds of other awards sites full of backlit off-camera flash night time portraits; we wanted a site where photographers can shout – and demonstrate! – about how important documentary wedding photography is to them.
Rangefinder
En tot slot.. een van de belangrijkste awards die je kan winnen, Rangefinder's 30 Rising Stars of Wedding Photography.. een soort van de Oscars. Een New York prestigious magazine die nieuw opkomend talent bekroond. maar 30 mensen per jaar van over de hele wereld. En op de valreep van mijn 4e jaar in business heb ik hem gewonnen.
